About RAPID
RAPID (Reaction Activity Prediction Identification Database) provides information on catalysis by enzymes with broad substrate specificity, and computational tools to use these enzymes more productively. These key enzymes are important in drug discovery and biodegradation. RAPID fills a unique niche that allows users to find the best enzyme candidates for their purposes without having to test thousands of enzymes empirically.
RAPID exists in prototype form now. The database is housed in the University of Minnesota BioTechnology Institute and maintained with assistance from the UM Office of Information Technology.
RAPID staff are currently developing methods for predicting substrates for enzymes computationally. Some broad-specificity enzymes are expected to react with >10,000 substrates. This prediction system, once developed, will become part of the RAPID system.
